About SD-WAN

Just as LAN is a subset of WAN, Software-Defined WAN is a subset of Software Defined Network. It has emerged as a solution that seeks to change the traditional way networks are being set up. It is simply making variable formerly invariable network properties. Networks are now intelligent as they are self-aware and adaptive in varying scenarios. This technology improves on the existing architecture by bringing in the following offerings

Faster Application Delivery

With the emergence of SAAS Applications, organizational operations are now heavily dependent on software that is hosted on the cloud or someone else's computer, who is miles away, so the speed of connection and delivery becomes essential. SD-WAN inherently allows a minimum of two links which gives users the flexibility needed to choose preferred links by specifying SLA(Service Level Agreements) thereby setting a threshold for performance hence guaranteeing fast and reliable delivery of applications.

Resilience

Another advantage of the SD-WAN is that it allows for redundancy and zero-touch failover whenever there is a fault with a link. Real-time monitoring is embedded in this technology because it provides a space for integrating virtual servers that act as monitors to the link quality at any time, these virtual servers give feeds needed to maintain the resiliency needed.

Simplified Operation & Management.

Engineers no longer have to go to sites to bring up services because SD-WAN enabled equipment to separate the control plane, management plane and data plane, so all required configurations can be sent remotely to thousands of sites at a time. This in return reduces OPEX since organizations don't need to pay engineers for first-time deployments or site maintenance.
